In a critical message, the National Blood Services Zimbabwe, emphasizes the urgency of blood donations, particularly towards the end of the year. NBSZ head Mrs. Lucy Marowa highlighted the prevalence of road accidents and incidents of violence during this period, leading to a significant demand for blood to save lives.Highlighting the crucial role of blood transfusions, Mrs. Marowa points out that besides addressing trauma from accidents and violence, donated blood is essential for treating infections that cannot be managed with medication alone. Blood Type O, widely present in the country’s population, is identified as the most needed blood type. Mrs. Marowa urges individuals to step forward for donation, emphasizing that this act literally breathes life into those who are in dire need.Addressing common misconceptions, Mrs. Marowa clarified that siblings born to the same parents may not share the same blood type, reinforcing the importance of a diverse and consistent blood donor pool. Additionally, she stresses the meticulous testing process donors undergo to ensure the health and safety of the blood supply, with particular attention to screening for sexually transmitted diseases.
