Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has appointed James Mufara as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective from May 1, 2024.Mark Learmonth, the Chief Executive Officer of Caledonia Mining, expressed his anticipation in collaborating with James Mufara, emphasizing the wealth of experience Mufara brings to the company’s development within the mining sector.
James Mufara expressed his excitement about joining Caledonia and conveyed his eagerness to work with the talented team to enhance operational performance across the group’s portfolio.
Mufara (49) brings with him extensive experience garnered from his previous role as the Regional General Manager at Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited. During his tenure, he oversaw a diverse portfolio of operations, encompassing five mines and managing a workforce of 15,000 employees, yielding an annual gold production of 450koz.
With over 25 years of experience in the mining sector in Southern Africa, Mufara boasts 13 years in leadership positions. While his career has predominantly revolved around gold mining, he also possesses exposure to nickel, copper, and chrome mining.
Mufara’s expertise spans various mining methodologies, including deep-level underground mining and open-pit operations, which aligns with Caledonia’s existing underground operation at Blanket Mine and ongoing development projects at Bilboes and Motapa, slated to be open-pit ventures.
Mufara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering and an MBA.
