Ngezi Platinum Stars have departed Zimbabwe for their upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round match against AS Maniema of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions will host the first leg at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia, on Saturday, due to the unavailability of approved stadiums in Zimbabwe.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CAT.

Despite the venue challenges, Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach Takesure Chiragwi remains focused on the task ahead. In an interview with The Herald, Chiragwi acknowledged the disadvantage of playing away from home support but emphasized the importance of mental strength.

“It’s a disadvantage in terms of the supporters because when you play in Zimbabwe, you have the entire nation behind you,” said Chiragwi. “But in terms of the game itself, we can’t complain. Football is meant to be played anywhere. We need to be mentally strong and hope that Zimbabweans in Zambia come out in numbers to support us. The presence of the 12th man is crucial for boosting the players’ confidence and helping them perform at their best.”

Ngezi Platinum Stars are determined to make a strong start in their CAF Champions League campaign as they seek to advance to the next round.
