FC Platinum ensured that no raw minerals left Zvishavane on Saturday afternoon, metaphorically obeying the government’s call to stop the export of raw materials by refusing to let the three precious points leave Mandava Stadium against Manica Diamonds FC.

On a lively afternoon in Zvishavane, the Platinum Miners polished off the Diamonds with a performance full of energy, invention and pride, claiming a deserved 2–0 victory in front of a colourful home crowd.

From the opening whistle, FC Platinum played with authority. Their movement in the final third continually stretched the Manica Diamonds defence, with Junior Jarrison Selemani particularly electric in attack. The forward’s pace and direct running caused problems all afternoon, driving at defenders and linking play beautifully as the hosts carved out chance after chance. On another day, the scoreline could easily have been more emphatic.

The breakthrough came early when McKinnon Matema Mushore finished off a slick attacking move to give the hosts the lead, setting the tone for a dominant display by the home side.

But the afternoon belonged in many ways to Garikai Dematsika, who shone brightly on what was his first real Mandava foray in FC Platinum colours. The midfielder was everywhere — gliding past opponents, dictating the tempo and carrying the ball forward with purpose.

Dematsika played with visible passion, at one point pointing to the FC Platinum badge on his chest, a gesture that drew loud approval from the Mandava faithful. He battled tirelessly in midfield and his performance was fittingly crowned with a goal — a reward for his industry and determination throughout the match.

By the time he was substituted to warm applause from the stands, Dematsika had left everything on the pitch.

Manica Diamonds’ difficult afternoon was compounded when defender Farai Banda was sent off after a heavy challenge, leaving the visitors with ten men as FC Platinum continued to press forward.

Behind the attack, goalkeeper Manfred Ekoi was calm and assured whenever called upon, preserving the clean sheet and ensuring the Diamonds never found a way back into the contest.

It was, ultimately, a day well spent at Mandava Stadium — a match that reminded everyone why football holds such a special place in Zvishavane. The stands were alive with colour and song, with fans draped in blue and white creating a vibrant backdrop to the action on the field.

When the final whistle sounded, players and supporters shared a moment of celebration together — a small but powerful reflection of the bond between the team and a town that truly lives and breathes football.

On this occasion, the Platinum Miners not only protected their turf — they made sure the Diamonds left empty-handed, while the three points stayed firmly in Zvishavane.
