Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Midlands is appealing to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of Nhlalo Darlington Baloyi to report at any police station as it intensifies efforts to locate a suspect wanted in connection with the alleged murder of a woman in Gweru.
The suspect, Nhlalo Darlington Baloyi (37), also known as Khaye, of Mkonto Village under Chief Ntabeni in Zhombe, is an artisanal miner believed to be based in Shurugwi. He is currently on the police wanted persons list following the death of Patricia Nyathi (32).
According to Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the alleged murder occurred on 2 March 2026 at around 3:00 AM in Mkoba 4 suburb in Gweru, where the couple had been living together since December 2025.
Police say circumstances surrounding the incident indicate that Nyathi was outside their house doing laundry when Baloyi allegedly confronted her, accusing her of infidelity. The confrontation reportedly escalated into an altercation.
Baloyi is said to have gone into the house and returned with a vehicle shock absorber, intending to assault Nyathi. However, the deceased’s 13-year-old daughter, Sibothabo Sibanda, reportedly intervened after sensing danger and managed to stop him.
Police allege that Baloyi then went back inside the house and returned with a hammer, which he allegedly used to strike Nyathi several times on the head. She reportedly collapsed and died at the scene.
After the incident, Baloyi allegedly fled and his whereabouts remain unknown. Police say efforts to locate him have been ongoing since the day of the offence but he has not yet been found.
