The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is intensifying its crackdown on armed robbery cases following a series of incidents in Bulawayo and Gwanda.

On November 20, 2024, a robbery occurred at Chigumira Business Centre in Bulawayo, where a Ford Ranger vehicle, registration number AFN 6255, was stolen. The vehicle was later recovered at a railway crossing in Spitzkop, Gwanda.

In a related incident, another robbery involving a vehicle with registration number ADU 1198 was reported. During the robbery, the suspects made off with ZAR 500, USD 15, and a cellphone. Authorities are working to link the two incidents as investigations continue.

The ZRP has identified Elvis Charakupa (41), whose last known address is 96/7878 Mpopoma, Bulawayo, as a suspect in connection with the robberies. The police are appealing to members of the public for any information that may lead to his arrest. Citizens can contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197. Reports can also be made at the nearest police station.

In a statement, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reiterated the force’s commitment to eradicating armed robbery cases. “The crack teams set up by the Zimbabwe Republic Police command are alert and will ensure the law takes its course without fear or favor,” said Nyathi.
