Gerald Mupandawana Makore (38), Nicola Kadonzvo (28), Judith Mangando (45), Tafadzwa Gerald Madzima (22), and Tavonga Munoda (21) appeared in Norton Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges.
The charges stem from a July 17, 2024 incident at Plot 26 Parl, Selous, where Ruvimbo Kamugwala, tasked with cleaning, was accused of stealing USD 100. The second accused discovered the money was missing and, with the first and third accused, interrogated Kamugwala. They allegedly assaulted her with switches, electric cables, and open hands before seeking the fourth and fifth accused officers at a police base.
The fourth and fifth accused, both police officers, reportedly continued the assault with a button stick while Kamugwala was handcuffed. Despite her confession and claims about the money’s whereabouts, nothing was found. Kamugwala died the following morning after further assault, as the first and second accused tried to consult a prophet.
All five accused were remanded in custody until August 1, 2024, and were advised to apply for bail at High Court.
