The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a strong warning to the public against attempting to cross flooded rivers following a tragic drowning incident in Chirumhanzu, where a man and his ox-drawn cart were swept away by the raging Nyagari River.
Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the victim, Munashe Muzinda (44) of Village 66 in the Nyagari area, was aboard his cart when he attempted to cross the swollen river on February 16, 2025, at around 5 PM. He and his two oxen were overpowered by the current and swept downstream.
His body was discovered two kilometers away after a frantic search by villagers, while the oxen and cart were only found six days later, 10 km from the scene—both animals had perished.
Police have since urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season, emphasizing that no journey is worth a life.
