President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed the importance of “African solutions to African problems,” urging the continent to safeguard its sovereignty and wealth.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Joint Command and Staff Course (JCSC) Number 37 at the Zimbabwe Staff College, the President emphasized that Africa’s peace, security, and development depend on the collective responsibility of its people.

“Our mantra, African solutions to African problems, must remain true for posterity,” said President Mnangagwa. “A country is built and must be defended by its own people. The responsibility to proffer and implement solutions to propel the peace, security, development, modernization, and prosperity of our country, the SADC region, and the African continent lies with all of us.”

The President also highlighted the risks posed by external forces seeking to exploit Africa’s abundant natural resources through manipulation and coercion. He called for vigilance in safeguarding the continent’s wealth and sovereignty.

The JCSC Number 37 graduation saw 71 officers, including 14% female graduates, complete their training. Among the graduates were 14 officers from allied defence forces across the region, including participants from Kenya for the first time.

Established in 1980, the Zimbabwe Staff College has evolved to provide comprehensive command and staff training. Since its transformation into the JCSC in 1996, the institution has played a critical role in fostering regional military cooperation and advancing professional military education.

The ceremony underscored the role of the Zimbabwe Staff College in shaping a united and self-reliant Africa, as President Mnangagwa reminded the graduates of their duty to uphold peace and security across the continent.
