President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to commission the newly resurfaced Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Highway in Shurugwi today. The upgraded 43-kilometer stretch, which had been in disrepair for years, is seen as a key driver for enhancing transport efficiency along Zimbabwe’s southern corridor.

The highway connects the Beitbridge border post to other major entry points, including Chirundu and Nyamapanda. Its previous state of deterioration forced cross-border trucks to take longer routes through Masvingo and Harare.

Speaking to Great Dyke News, Shurugwi South Member of Parliament Wilson Mhuri praised the government for prioritizing the project. He urged motorists and miners in the Great Dyke region to exercise caution and avoid speeding on the newly refurbished road.

The revamped highway is expected to significantly improve border-to-border connectivity and stimulate economic activity in the region.
