A 33-year-old man from Ruwa, Boden Hove, was fined by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court after being found in possession of unregistered medicine in violation of the Medicine and Aligned Substances Control Act.
On October 30, 2024, around 8:30 a.m., Hove was traveling in an unregistered Nissan Note when he was stopped at a police checkpoint near the Bubi stop. Officers, along with detectives, conducted a search of his belongings and discovered 1.7 liters of Broncleer cough syrup and 1.15 liters of Adco Salterpyn hidden in a blue satchel. The seized medicine, valued at USD 155, led to Hove’s immediate arrest.
In court, Hove was sentenced to pay a fine of USD 250 or face two months of imprisonment if he fails to pay. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal distribution and possession of unregistered medicinal substances in Zimbabwe.
