Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited is set to invest US$28 million in a bold move to produce its own citrus fruits, ensuring a stable supply chain for its juice production operations. This strategic investment is aimed at bolstering the company’s self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on third-party suppliers.

Currently, Schweppes sources its oranges from farmers in Beitbridge, which are processed at the company’s Beitbridge Juicing Company. However, to meet growing demand and mitigate supply risks, the company is expanding its agricultural footprint.

The government has allocated 4,000 hectares of land to Schweppes for citrus cultivation, with the company initially focusing on 700 hectares for immediate development. This project is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of Schweppes’ juice production, aligning with its long-term sustainability goals.

Schweppes’ decision to venture into citrus farming marks a significant shift in its operational strategy, underscoring the importance of vertical integration in securing raw materials for its production lines.
