The Zimbabwe Republic Police has commended the Sherwood community in Kwekwe for apprehending a 51-year-old man accused of fatally assaulting his girlfriend, Grace Magogodla, 31, in the early hours of November 3, 2024. The suspect, identified as Christopher Ncube, was detained by community members and handed over to the police following the alleged incident at Machakwi Cropping Compound.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Ncube and Magogodla had been drinking at Machakwi Beerhall on the night of November 2.
Around 9:00 p.m., Ncube left the beerhall and returned to his room, leaving Magogodla with other patrons, including her alleged ex-boyfriend, Doubt Chinyanga. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Ncube reportedly heard Magogodla’s voice coming from a neighboring room. Upon investigation, he found her with Chinyanga, who quickly fled the scene.
A confrontation ensued between Ncube and Magogodla, during which Ncube allegedly dragged her to his room and struck her on the head with a log, resulting in her death at the scene.
Community members promptly acted, detaining Ncube before he could flee and alerting law enforcement. The police arrived and took Ncube into custody, where he now awaits further investigation.
