The Zimbabwe Republic Police is urging members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully, following a violent incident in Shurugwi where a 23-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked with an axe.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on July 6, 2024, at approximately 0400 hours as Tinashe Denhere and a friend were walking from a local bar to work. They encountered three men identified as Nyasha, Wesly (also known as Sabhuku), and Mhizha, who blocked their path, leading to an altercation.
During the altercation, Wesly allegedly drew a small axe from his waist and struck Denhere multiple times on the head. The assailants fled the scene, leaving Denhere severely injured and in a pool of blood.
Police were notified, and Denhere was rushed to Shurugwi hospital for urgent medical attention.
