Shurugwi Police Hunt for Kombi Driver After Attempted Murder Incident at Roadblock.

Police in Shurugwi are actively investigating a case of attempted murder following a dramatic incident at a roadblock on the Gweru-Zvishavane Road on Thursday, August 22.

The suspect, identified as George Mandaraza (34), was driving a Toyota Hiace kombi with registration number AFE 1506, carrying three passengers. He was stopped at a police checkpoint near the 42-kilometre peg and was arrested for a traffic violation. Mandaraza was being escorted to the nearest police station when he suddenly made a U-turn and drove the kombi back towards the roadblock.

In a reckless act, Mandaraza crashed into police drums before the vehicle veered off the road, hitting street lights and subsequently colliding head-on with a Honda Fit. The driver of the Honda Fit and a police officer were injured in the collision.

Following the incident, Mandaraza fled the scene, leaving behind the damaged vehicles and injured individuals. Authorities are urging anyone with information on Mandaraza’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The police are treating the case as an attempted murder due to the deliberate nature of the actions taken by the kombi driver. Investigations are ongoing.
