Two siblings from Mangunye Village have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each for slaughtering their brother’s ox without his consent during a funeral held at his homestead.

Rasson Hove (38) and Moses Mudzingwa (31) will, however, serve nine years behind bars after the Gweru Magistrates Court suspended one year of their sentences on condition they pay US$500 in compensation to their brother, the complainant, with each contributing US$250.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on November 10 during a funeral at the complainant’s home. The court heard that around 8:20 pm, a heated dispute erupted when Hove and Mudzingwa accused their brother of practicing witchcraft, which they claimed caused the death of a family member.

The two later took it upon themselves to slaughter the ox, leading to their arrest and subsequent conviction.
