Police in the Midlands Province have confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old man accused of killing his older brother during a beer-drinking session at Turtle Mine, Silobela, in the early hours of Saturday, July 13, 2025.

According to police, the suspect, Bekezela Moyo (33), allegedly struck his brother Thinkwell Moyo (36) with a log following a dispute over the purchase of beer at Turtle Tuckshops around 1:00 AM. The siblings, who both hail from Village Ntabeni under Chief Ntabeni, were reportedly drinking together when the altercation broke out.

Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Thinkwell fell to the ground after being hit on the head and was rushed to Silobela District Hospital by well-wishers. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Police attended the scene and arrested the suspect. Investigations are underway, and the matter is set to be taken to court,” Inspector Mahoko said.

Authorities are once again appealing to members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid violence.

This tragic incident adds to a growing concern over fatal assaults arising from minor disagreements, particularly during social gatherings.
