A Bulawayo woman, Clara Ncube (32), has been sentenced after exploiting a technical glitch in NetOne’s OneMoney system to steal ZWG136,442. The theft occurred between May 10 and May 13, 2024, during which Ncube manipulated a system error that allowed her to transfer mobile money without corresponding deductions. By executing multiple transactions below the ZWG24,400 threshold, she managed to avoid detection.

NetOne has since rectified the glitch, and ZWG112,042 of the stolen amount has been recovered.

Ncube was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with 6 months suspended on the condition that she does not reoffend. An additional 6 months were suspended upon her paying ZWG24,400 in restitution, and she is required to complete 211 hours of community service at Drill Hall CID Minerals.
