As monkeypox cases rise globally, Zimbabwe is taking precautionary steps to safeguard its population from the virus. While there have been concerns in Zvishavane, where a sizable monkey population exists, health experts assure that the risk of transmission from local monkeys is virtually non-existent.
Health expert based in Zvishavane Dr. Wallace Hlambelo said despite this, the likelihood of the virus being present in the local monkey population is nil.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has ramped up efforts to prevent the virus from entering Zimbabwe. Measures include enhanced surveillance at all entry points, traveler screenings from affected countries, and public education campaigns focused on prevention and recognizing symptoms.
