In a significant breakthrough, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Province announced the arrest of five individuals linked to a series of thefts across Masvingo. The suspects, Admire Chitorido Munetsi (33), Brian Tazvitya (36), Hardlife Chireya (46), Wonderful Musebha (42), and Sylas Matesamwa (35), have been charged with unlawful entry into premises and theft.
The criminal activities began in September 2024, when the group stole a submersible water pump valued at US$220 from a property in Morningside, Masvingo. Their spree continued into October, where they targeted Mavhaire Coronation, making off with 11 solar panels, each with wattage of 360W, collectively valued at US$2,240. They also stole a solar control box and armored cable worth US$360 from the same location. Further, the group raided Machaka Village under Chief Charumbira, stealing kitchen utensils, clothing, and a mattress amounting to US$560.
The crimes caught the attention of the local community, whose cooperation with the police was pivotal. Acting on community tips, the ZRP conducted thorough investigations leading to the recovery of all stolen items, which together were valued at US$3,380.
