Southern Region Records Heaviest Rainfall of the Season.

The Southern Region of Zimbabwe experienced its heaviest rainfall so far this season on 9 February 2025, with many stations reporting up to 60mm of rain. Dewure High recorded the highest rainfall of the day at 95mm, closely followed by Morgenster with 90mm.


Gutu District emerged as the region’s standout with a high average rainfall, with most stations exceeding 50mm. Notable figures from Gutu include Gutu High with 78mm, Mukaro at 66mm, Nyazvidzi and Hwiru both recording 65mm, and Utsinda Christian with 48mm.


Masvingo Urban also saw significant rainfall, with Rujeko receiving 75mm and Junior 80mm. However, Beitbridge recorded much lower totals, with St Mary’s and Vhembe schools receiving only 4mm each, while Beitbridge Mission saw just 1mm of rainfall.


Gweru also experienced relatively low rainfall, with Mambo and Sandara Primary Schools reporting 6mm each.
The increased rainfall is a welcome development for agricultural activities in the region
