HARARE – The Sterling Group of Hotels has thrown its weight behind Zimbabwe’s golfing duo, Samson Mavunga and Tadeous Lazaro, as they prepare to compete at the prestigious International Pairs World Finals in South Africa next week.

The pair will represent Zimbabwe at the championship, which runs from October 6 to 10, 2025, at the Sun International Golf Course. They booked their ticket to the global stage after triumphing in the Zimbabwe finals held on September 27 at Mulota Hill Golf Club in Mhondoro Ngezi, where they emerged tops from a pool of 142 players drawn from 30 clubs across the country.

This marks the second year that Sterling Group of Hotels has anchored the tournament, aligning with its drive to promote sports tourism under the theme, “Tee off for travel, discover the beauty of Zimbabwe.”

Executive Chairman Wilbert Manyika said the event perfectly fits the group’s mission.

“We are delighted to have participated in an event that is so in sync with our core aspirations of supporting sports tourism and showcasing Zimbabwe as a premier destination,” he said. “This tournament is a fantastic platform to blend the excitement of competitive golf with the allure of our nation’s diverse tourism offerings.”

The finals drew support from key partners including Albatros Golf Company, the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality, and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, alongside new sponsors First Link Insurance and First Capital Bank. Local contributors such as Art Effects of Bulawayo and VTU Platinum Lodge of Mhondoro Ngezi were also acknowledged.

As Mavunga and Lazaro head to South Africa, Sterling Group said it was proud to lead the nation in rallying behind the golfers.

“We wish our winning pair all the very best as they represent Zimbabwe on the world stage,” the group said in a statement.

The International Pairs World Finals will bring together top golfers from across the globe, offering Zimbabwe’s duo an opportunity to showcase both their talent and the country’s growing footprint in sports tourism.
