A 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after ingesting rat poison in a suspected suicide incident at Mlotshwa Village in Zhombe under Chief Samambwa’s jurisdiction on August 17, 2024.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the unfortunate incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. when the teenager, who was at home with her mother, was confronted by a neighbor, Beauty Sinyoro. Sinyoro accused the girl of stealing $50, a charge the young girl vehemently denied.
Shortly after the confrontation, the juvenile ingested rat poison and was later found collapsed at the gate of their home, with froth coming from her mouth and nose—a clear sign of poisoning. Despite efforts to save her life, she succumbed to the toxic substance.
