KWEKWE – A tragic mining accident at Donzic 6 Mine in Kwekwe has claimed the lives of two miners after an explosion suspected to have been caused by heated dynamites.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred on March 15, 2025, leading to the deaths of Loveson Nkiwane (41) and Albert Mulima (36).

According to preliminary investigations, one of the victims unknowingly placed a hot iron pick head underground, directly onto a hidden cache of explosives. The heat ignited the dynamites, resulting in a powerful explosion that instantly claimed both lives.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have urged miners to exercise extreme caution when handling mining equipment and to properly secure explosives to prevent such tragedies.
