The Zimbabwe national soccer team, the Warriors, are gearing up for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Cameroon on Tuesday.
Following a promising 0-0 draw against Kenya, Warriors captain Marshall Munetsi expressed optimism about the team’s performance and the positive impact of the new coach.
Reflecting on the Kenya match, Munetsi noted, “It was a positive performance from everyone. Now, going into the game against Cameroon, we’re focused on getting maximum points, especially since we’re playing at home.” Despite reports that Cameroon might not play, Munetsi emphasized that the team is unfazed, acknowledging that mind games are common in African football.
Cameroon presents a different challenge compared to Kenya, with Munetsi highlighting the quality and experience of their squad, many of whom play for top European clubs. He added, “We’re preparing by analyzing videos of our performance and Cameroon’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s about being efficient, taking our chances, and staying solid defensively.”
Warriors striker Douglas Mapfumo echoed Munetsi’s sentiments, praising the team’s preparations and the coach’s influence.
“We’ve been training well, focusing on finishing, and the squad’s mentality is right. It’s going to be a good game against a very aggressive team, but we’re confident.”
