YA FM, the voice of the Great Dyke, marks its ninth anniversary this year, celebrating nearly a decade of championing local talent and regional development. From its inception, the station has been dedicated to amplifying the voices of the Great Dykers and fostering growth in the region, according to board member Tafara Mbaya.
Reflecting on the station’s journey, Mbaya highlighted how YA FM has been a key player in the region’s successes, serving as the “soundtrack” to victories such as FC Platinum’s multiple league titles and the achievements of artists like Great Dykers who have gained national recognition. He also acknowledged the station’s role in empowering local communities, including supporting the success of Elliot Mujaji, who recently coached at the Paris Paralympics, and the growth of Tech for Zvishavane.
Looking ahead to the station’s upcoming milestone, Mbaya expressed optimism about the future. As YA FM prepares to celebrate its tenth anniversary next year, plans include expanding its signal, enhancing community pride, and empowering the region’s youth and women. Additionally, the station envisions evolving into a leading multimedia brand in Africa, with ventures into apps, online podcasts, and television.
Mbaya also noted the upcoming construction of a state-of-the-art radio park in Zvishavane, which will feature modern studios, a mall, and gaming facilities, further boosting employment and business opportunities in the region.
YA FM will celebrate its 9th anniversary at the Palawani Lakeworld Resort on Saturday, 28 September. The guest of honor for the event will be the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka.
