Zambian football is in mourning following the death of seven Chavuma Town Council FC players in a bus crash on Saturday. The squad was traveling to a third-tier league match in the northwest of the country when the accident occurred.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) expressed “deep shock” over the tragedy. FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the association is working with local authorities to gather more information.
Twelve others were injured, with five evacuated to Lusaka for further medical treatment. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe offered condolences.
