The ruling party, ZANU PF, will hold its National Cell Day on Saturday, with party leadership saying the exercise is aimed at reviewing grassroots structures and updating membership records.

Speaking ahead of the event, ZANU PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha said party members at all levels, including senior officials, are expected to attend cell meetings from 11:00am. He said the day will be used to assess attendance, voter registration status, and whether cell structures are properly constituted and functional.

Machacha said the party views cell structures as central to its organisational strength and election preparedness, adding that inactive or unverifiable cells make future planning difficult. He acknowledged that some cells had previously been neglected and said efforts were underway to strengthen leadership at the lowest level.

He said the party has introduced a cell leadership handbook to guide executives on their roles, meeting procedures, and community-based projects. The exercise will also incorporate membership recruitment, with members encouraged to present newly recruited supporters for formal registration.

In addition, Machacha said ZANU PF is implementing a membership digitalisation programme to create a central electronic database. He said party membership stood at about 3.5 million last year, with a target of 4.5 million members this year.
