Mimosa Mining Company has reinforced its stance on zero tolerance to drug and substance abuse, highlighting the growing impact of the crisis on Zimbabwean communities—particularly the youth.
Speaking at the 2025 Zvishavane District ZRP Cop of the Year Awards ceremony last Friday, Managing Director Fungai Makoni said drug-related offences remain a serious concern, and commended the Zimbabwe Republic Police for their continued role in apprehending offenders and combating the scourge.

Makoni said drug and substance abuse had significantly affected communities, stressing that Mimosa’s advocacy efforts hinge on preventing harm and supporting law enforcement agencies that confront the problem daily. He emphasized that the company recognizes the police as key partners in safeguarding communities, especially as drug peddling continues to infiltrate neighborhoods and schools.

The remarks came as Mimosa, the event sponsor, joined the ZRP in honoring officers who demonstrated exceptional performance between October 2024 and September 2025. Makoni said the Cop of the Year Award serves as an important motivation tool, encouraging dedication, innovation and excellence in police work. He added that recognizing outstanding officers aligns with Mimosa’s commitment to building capability, fostering excellence and strengthening relationships with institutions that serve the community.

Makoni also noted that the company routinely collaborates with the ZRP and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe on public holiday road safety campaigns under its “Let’s Go Zero” initiative. He said these campaigns aim to reduce accidents and safeguard life, reinforcing Mimosa’s broader culture of zero harm across all its operations and partnerships.

The ceremony took place as Mimosa celebrates its centenary, marking 100 years of mining operations. Makoni expressed gratitude to the surrounding communities for their long-standing support, saying the company’s image and success are closely tied to the people it works alongside. He congratulated this year’s award recipients and said there will always be opportunities for recognition in future years.
