The Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union (ZIDAMWU) has called for a focused approach within the Mining National Employment Council (NEC) to address workers’ concerns more effectively.


ZIDAMWU Secretary General, Justice Chinhema, emphasized the importance of creating sub-sectors within the NEC to cater to the unique needs and values of different minerals mined in Zimbabwe.

“We are advocating for the creation of sub-sectors within the NEC for diamonds, lithium, gold, and other high-value minerals,” Chinhema stated. “This will ensure that workers in these sectors can negotiate better terms in line with the specific demands of the minerals they work with.”


Chinhema also highlighted the need for workers to bargain in accordance with the market demands for transitional minerals, ensuring fair representation and better working conditions for all workers in the mining industry.
