Opposition leader Douglas Mwonzora has condemned a motion by Zanu PF legislator Energy Mutodi, which seeks to amend Zimbabwe’s Constitution to extend the presidential term by up to five years and allow Parliament to determine additional terms. Mwonzora accused lawmakers of prioritizing political survival over democracy, warning the motion could set a dangerous precedent for dynastic rule.

Isheanesu Marima of the Zanu PF Midlands Information Desk defended President Mnangagwa’s leadership, highlighting economic and infrastructural gains under his Vision 2030 agenda.

Constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku warned against normalizing presidential term extensions. Mutodi confirmed the motion is still in draft form and pending approval.
