The founder and Managing Director of outsourcing firm Zimworx has praised Zimbabwe’s workforce, saying the country’s strong work ethic and professionalism give it a competitive edge over many countries, including South Africa.

Speaking during a presentation on the global outsourcing industry, the Zimworx boss James Wade Oliver Juniour said the commitment and dedication of Zimbabwean workers stand out when compared to other markets.

“They actually say the work ethic here is way better. Just think about that. It’s true,” he said.

He acknowledged the comparison with neighbouring South Africa may be controversial but insisted Zimbabwe’s workforce offers a unique advantage.

“I’m sorry South Africa if I offended you. When I come to South Africa, I’ll tell you that. But it’s important to understand that this is the key element this country has — people want to work,” he said.

The Zimworx founder said he is constantly impressed by the professionalism displayed by employees in Zimbabwe.

“You look at the people in our centres — I’m the worst dressed person in the room when I go to the office every day. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, they’re all dressed sharp and working.’ It shows the professionalism and the level this country offers compared to many others,” he said.

He added that Zimbabwe has the potential to outperform South Africa in the outsourcing and remote services sector if the country continues to leverage its skilled and motivated workforce.

Zimworx currently employs about 1,700 people in Zimbabwe and specialises in “remote team members as a service,” providing outsourced staff for companies abroad.

During the presentation, the company founder also highlighted the global scale of the outsourcing industry, noting that India remains the largest market, valued at about US$85 billion, followed by the Philippines at around US$40 billion, Mexico, and South Africa among the leading outsourcing destinations.

He said the growth of remote work and digital services presents an opportunity for Zimbabwe to position itself as a major outsourcing hub in Africa, provided the country continues to build on its reputation for hardworking and professional talent.
