The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested two police officers who were allegedly caught taking bribes in a viral social media video. The officers, identified as Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva, were filmed accepting bribes from pirate kombis, taxis, and registered public service vehicles at the Mabvuku turn-off on the Harare-Mutare Road.
According to a press statement from the ZRP, the two officers are now in detention and are facing both disciplinary and criminal charges. The police described them as “bad apples” who are not fit to serve in the Police Service.
The Commissioner-General of Police emphasized that corruption by any police officer is unacceptable and assured the public that the law would take its course without “fear or favour.”
This arrest follows widespread public outrage over the video, which had been widely circulated online, sparking concerns about corruption within the police force
