Thandiwe Bheura, aged 41, was preparing food in her kitchen with her grandson, Brilliant Mhike, aged one and a half years, when her 25-year-old brother-in-law, Rutendo Shayanewako—who is believed to be mentally ill—entered the kitchen. After serving Shayanewako food, Bheura stepped out to serve other family members. Upon returning, she found Shayanewako cutting the child’s throat with a kitchen knife. Despite her immediate intervention, the child died instantly due to a deep cut on his throat.

The case is under investigation, and the suspect has been arrested. The ZRP emphasizes the importance of proper care and medication for mentally challenged individuals, as prescribed by medical professionals or mental health institutions, to prevent such tragic occurrences.
