In preparation for the upcoming 2023 Harmonized election, legal experts have emphasized that the existing legal framework will be employed, with no changes allowed after the proclamation of the election date. Advocate Tichaona Chivasa, in an interview with Great Dyyke News, clarified that only the legal provisions in place at the time of the proclamation will govern the 2023 election.
Advocate Chivasa further explained that while voter registration will continue, individuals who register after two days following the proclamation will not be eligible to vote on the scheduled election date of August 23, 2023.
There had been speculation among some legislators about potential amendments to the electoral act. However, Advocate Chivasa made it clear that any modifications made to the electoral act would only come into effect for the subsequent election in 2028. Thus, the current legal framework will remain unchanged for the 2023 Harmonized election, ensuring stability and consistency in the electoral process.
