Jeffrey Takawira, the Executive Director of the Agricultural Industry Development Support Institute for Southern Africa (AIDSISA) says the economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe have an adverse effect on the country`s horticultural industry.
According to Takawira, these sanctions have a tangible impact on the sector in the form of financial transactions.
He said one notable consequence has been the rejection of applications from Zimbabwean horticultural farmers seeking international financial cooperation. These funds are often essential for purposes such as expansion, working capital, and insurance. Unfortunately, due to the economic sanctions, obtaining such financial support has become increasingly challenging.
Takawira expressed optimism, noting that discussions and re-engagement processes are currently in progress. He anticipates that these efforts will yield positive results, ultimately providing the Zimbabwean horticultural sector with the necessary opportunities to thrive and prosper.
