A 35-year-old man from Shurugwi narrowly escaped death after being assaulted by fellow artisanal miners on September 7, 2024, at around 6:00 AM.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Tafadzwa Siyabonga and his 32-year-old wife confronted Alphonse Rushava, 36, and his group of four miners at Chiundura Claim, Musasa, Shurugwi, over their failure to cover mine pits, which posed a danger to livestock.
A heated argument ensued, during which Siyabonga struck Rushava on the leg with an axe. In retaliation, the other miners attacked Siyabonga, striking him on the head with an axe and on the leg with an iron bar.
Police investigations are ongoing. Authorities have urged the public to avoid violence when resolving disputes, warning that it could lead to serious injuries or loss of life.
