The government has announced a partnership with the private sector to rebuild the Mbare Traders Market, which was destroyed by a fire last Tuesday.

Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere confirmed the development during the 33rd Post-Cabinet Press Briefing.

“The government approved the engagement of an engineering, construction, and development company to rebuild the traders’ market under a design, engineering, procurement, construction, and finance model,” Muswere said.

He added that the model will ensure the market is restored with high-quality facilities in the shortest time possible. It aims to provide a formal and orderly environment for traders to resume operations while also encouraging the payment of taxes.

Muswere noted that the same framework could be replicated to upgrade other markets locally and internationally. The partnership aligns with efforts to restore normal operations and enhance infrastructure to support formalized trading
