Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust (YETT) has urged the government to allocate 25% of the 2025 National Budget toward entrepreneurship, job creation, and disaster resilience programs, emphasizing the importance of revitalizing idle factories to address unemployment.

Speaking at the ongoing 2025 Budget Consultations, Project Officer Jeffrey Mafuta stressed that channeling resources to restore dormant factories would provide vital employment opportunities.

“The nation is suffering from unemployment, so it will be noble for the budget to revitalize those factories that are lying idle,” he said. “Once revitalized, it would also be prudent to allocate a quota specifically for young people to combat issues of unemployment.”

Mafuta also highlighted the need for budgetary support toward disaster management policies, underscoring the urgency of passing and funding critical bills. “We are talking about the budget supporting policy development. For instance, the Disaster Risk Management Bill needs to be allocated sufficient funds,” he explained.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that such financial support is inclusive and meets the needs of young people, noting, “The funds allocated must also reflect the needs of the youth to ensure their inclusion in national development efforts.”
