A 21-year-old man from Raylands, Gweru, has been convicted on contempt of court charges and sentenced to perform 175 hours of community service by the Gweru Magistrates’ Court. The conviction follows his violation of a protection order issued against him by the court in October 2024.
The protection order had been granted to the complainant, who is the accused person’s mother, to prevent physical and verbal abuse. However, on December 5, 2024, the accused broke into the complainant’s house, directly violating the court’s directive.
Following the incident, a police report was filed, and the accused was arrested. The court sentenced him to 9 months imprisonment, with 3 months suspended for 5 years. A further 5 months were suspended on the condition that the accused performs 175 hours of community service. The remaining 1 month of his sentence was suspended upon the restitution of USD39 to the complainant.
