Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande has thrown his weight behind TelOne FC ahead of their clash against Dynamos, praising them for standing out in terms of their fluidity in both attack and defence.
Katsande, whose budding football project, Kitoko Soccer School Under 20 team played The Wi-Fi Boys in a training match on Thursday is convinced the Herbert Maruwa-led team deserves to be where they are on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table.
He said: “They are a very good quality team. Lots of good ball rotation and a very tactical team. It’s a strong side and I’m happy we managed to experience this kind of football because we really wanted to test ourselves with the best. They’re definitely one of the teams playing good football, and that will attract more fans.”
The retired hard tackling midfielder added that TelOne’s struggles at home are not a true reflection of the quality they possess. Rather, he said their success is hinged on their mindset.
“If you can convince your mind that you can do it, you’ll do it. But overall, they’re a well-coached team, with a very good coach, and you can see from the numbers. The position on the log table says it all,” Katsande added.
Currently sitting fourth on the league table, TelOne have emerged as this season’s suprise package and it is not hard to imagine them challenging for the title.
After letting go Blessing Sahondo and Blessing Sibanda, TelOne welcomed back midfielder Kudzai Jaison on loan from Scottland FC. They also signed striker Elton Chikona from Dynamos.
Meanwhile their opponents on Saturday, Dynamos are faced with the stark reality of relegation. They are sitting second from the bottom with only two wins, nine draws and seven losses in 19 fixtures acquiring a total of 15 points in total.
However Maruwa is not underrating them because of their current situation. He said: “We treat this game as a cup final. We need points. Every team is playing for a reason in this second half of the season.
“Dynamos are fighting to move away from the relegation zone, so they will come hard. We just want to keep collecting points and see what happens at the end of the season. For now, we need to make sure the first team gets three points.”
