Tensions continue to rise in the Central Region Soccer League after MSU FC’s hard-fought victory over a promotion-chasing Sheasham FC last weekend. MSU FC coach Smart Muchabaiwa has revealed that he and his family have faced threats and harassment in the wake of the match, leaving them fearful for their safety.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, Muchabaiwa said the win, which saw their opponents slip to second place behind Hardrock FC, was meant to be a cause for celebration. However, instead of praise, he and his children have reportedly been harassed while going about their daily activities.
“As young and upcoming coaches, we expect to be celebrated when we win games, but the reaction has not been what I expected,” Muchabaiwa said.
The aftermath of the game has also seen the losing side allege corruption, claiming wrongdoing by journalists, football authorities, and other teams in the league. While the ZIFA Central Region initially accepted the team’s withdrawal from the next leg, the national regulator has since stated that the club remains part of the competition, leaving uncertainty over whether they will appear for their scheduled match against Dulibadzimu FC on Saturday.
