Zvishavane Town Council has taken a significant step toward strengthening accountability and improving service delivery after senior officials signed performance contracts during a formal ceremony held this week.

The event brought together Heads of Departments (HODs), the District Development Coordinator (DDC), and council leadership, marking a renewed commitment to results-driven governance within the local authority.

Speaking at the ceremony, council chairperson Takarangana Keta underscored the importance of the initiative, noting that the agreements are designed to instill responsibility and measurable performance among officials.

“Myself as the Chairperson, Takarangana Keta, and the Town Secretary before me, we signed performance contracts,” he said.

Keta emphasized that the contracts are not merely procedural but represent binding commitments to deliver on the council’s mandate.

“These performance contracts are not just contracts, but they serve as a commitment which binds us to serve the municipality of the state,” he said.

He added that the agreements will function as structured work plans guiding the operations of council departments while aligning with national development priorities.

“It stands as a work plan, and it culminates into a bigger plan which is the Strategic Vision 2030 and an upper middle economy,” Keta explained.

The signing of performance contracts is part of broader government efforts to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability across public institutions, with local authorities expected to play a critical role in driving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 agenda.

Officials say the move is expected to improve service delivery outcomes and ensure that municipal operations remain closely tied to national development targets.
