The Zimbabwe Miners Federation ZMF, says it is urging its members to ignore a purported Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill that is circulating on social media.
In a statement signed by the ZMF Chief Executive Officer MrWellington Takavarasha, the small scale miners representative body said its executive and management board was putting the record straight following misinformation peddled by some individuals and groups.
“The facts are as follows: there is a committee that is currently working on the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill. This committee involves the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development legal department and the Attorney General’s office.
“The draft is yet to be submitted to Parliament by the 30th of September 2020 subject to confirmation by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.
“We urge our members to ignore the purported bill in circulation and not be misled by certain malcontents who are bent on misleading our membership,” said Takavarasha.
The development comes after the Minister of Mines and Mining Development recently undertook to present the amendments to the bill to the Mines Committee after the 17th of September 2020.
Meanwhile the mining sector is currently gearing towards the 7th Edition of the Mining Media Awards organised by Mejrkh Communications and Advisory.
