Buy Zimbabwe Chairman Munyaradzi Hwengwere challenged Ya FM to use the upcoming Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke as a platform for educating the public about the significance of the Great Dyke beyond the event itself.

In an interview with Great Dyke News Hwengwere stressed that many young Zimbabweans are unaware of what the Great Dyke represents, lamenting the lack of understanding about the rich resources and historical value it holds.

“The average young person does not know what the Great Dyke is,” he said. “No wonder people don’t fully appreciate the national treasure they have.”

He cautioned against reducing the tour to just promotional slogans, urging Ya FM to adopt a more interactive approach to engage the public meaningfully. “Sometimes, there’s a lot of shouting: ‘Come to Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke,’ without explaining what the Great Dyke is all about,” he said.

A key highlight of this year’s tour will be the launch of a new book on the Great Dyke, which Hwengwere said would serve as an educational resource for schools, universities, and corporates. The book aims to provide detailed information on the geological formation’s history, resources, and the communities built around it.

Hwengwere encouraged Ya FM to delve deeper into the subject, addressing questions such as who discovered the Great Dyke, the towns located within it, and how it compares to other geological formations globally. “What makes this one great?” he asked, underscoring the need for comprehensive storytelling around the Great Dyke.

The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, which will take place from November 7 to 9, serves not only as a wellness event but also as an opportunity to foster national pride and knowledge about one of Zimbabwe’s most significant geological landmarks.
