More than 5.1 million cases of Covid-19 have been reported worldwide, including 334,173 deaths, The US makes up 1,620,902 million of those cases.
Latin America reported more new cases than the US or Europe for three days in a row, driven by high numbers in Brazil, Peru and Mexico which had 17,564; 4,749 and +2,248 respectively.
This is far fewer cases and deaths than in Europe and the US, but testing is nowhere near as widespread and deaths may be under-reported.
New cases in South Africa rose above the one thousand mark to 1,134 yesterday to bring the total number to 19,137.
The death toll now stands at 369 as 30 new deaths were recorded. 525, 433 tests have been conducted nationwide.

Hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat lupus and rheumatological disorder, has received a massive amount of publicity this year. The reason? Its role in the Covid-19 pandemic.
The drug made headlines after being proposed as a preventative measure (prophylaxis) against Covid-19, as reported in the New York Times. While hydroxy chloroquine has generally fewer side-effects than its cousin chloroquine, which was also researched as a possible Covid-19 treatment, it was generally declared as ineffective against the novel coronavirus, based on several studies.
Toxic retinopathy is a condition where vision is impaired as a result of optic nerves being damaged by a toxin, such as found in some medications.
Several previous studies have acknowledged that long-term use of hydroxychloroquine may lead to this condition
