Tragedy struck at New Delhi Railway Station last night, where a massive crowd crush claimed the lives of at least 18 people and left 10 others injured.
Authorities say thousands of travelers had crammed into the station, trying to board delayed trains. Among the victims were four children and ten women.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, saying his thoughts are with the affected families.
Witnesses described the crowd as “uncontrollable,” with people struggling to enter the station. Officials confirmed that delays in two arriving trains and the departure of another heading to Prayagraj contributed to the chaos.
This disaster comes just weeks after a similar tragedy at the Kumbh Mela religious festival, where 30 people lost their lives in a pre-dawn crush.
Police say investigations are underway, while opposition leaders are blaming authorities for poor crowd control measures.
