A routine morning at Kudzanayi Bus Terminus in Gweru turned dramatic after detectives swooped on a suspected drug transaction, leading to the arrest of a 37-year-old man allegedly found in possession of prepared dagga.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that the arrest occurred on 16 February 2026 at around 1100 hours following a tip-off received by detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Midlands Province.
Police say the suspect, identified as Danisa Ncube of Section 3, Mtapa, was intercepted while allegedly receiving a consignment of the illicit substance at the busy transport hub.
Searches conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 16 shrink-wrapped cobs of prepared dagga, packaged in two separate parcels.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody together with the recovered exhibits, and investigations are ongoing. He is expected to appear before the courts on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
Police have warned members of the public against involvement in drug-related activities.
Inspector Mahoko said dealing in or possessing dangerous drugs without a licence remains a serious offence, urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspected drug dealers.
“It is our duty together as a nation to safeguard our future from the effects of drugs,” he said.
Police have reiterated calls for community cooperation as authorities intensify efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the province.
