Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) Deputy President Misheck Kachere has called on businesses, policymakers, and community leaders to embrace Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, saying sustainability should not be viewed as a burden but as an opportunity to innovate and create lasting value.

Speaking at the ESG Breakfast Interface 2025 held at Rainbow Towers in Harare, which ran under the theme “Responsible Resource Development: The ESG Commitment,” Kachere said ESG must go beyond compliance checklists to become a driver of resilience and inclusive prosperity.

“Let me endorse this ESG. It’s not just about compliance or checking boxes. It is about beauty as well — a future that is more resilient, inclusive and prosperous,” he said.

Kachere stressed that responsible resource development required businesses to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, social upliftment, and strong governance systems. He urged all stakeholders to shift their perception of ESG from obligation to opportunity.

“I call upon every business leader, policymaker and community actor present in this workshop to embrace ESG, not just as a burden, but as an opportunity — an opportunity to innovate, to lead and to create lasting value,” he added.
He said Zimbabwe’s future depended on harmonizing economic development with sustainability imperatives, arguing that government, private sector and communities must work together to shape a more accountable and inclusive growth path.

The ESG Breakfast Interface 2025 brought together executives from across the mining, agricultural, financial and industrial sectors to explore practical ways of integrating ESG into corporate strategy. The meeting also highlighted the growing expectation from investors and regulators for companies to demonstrate sustainability commitments in areas such as climate resilience, resource efficiency, community development and ethical governance.
