In a significant accomplishment for Unki Platinum Mine’s parent company, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), the year 2023 marked the second consecutive year of recording zero fatalities across its mining operations. This notable achievement encompasses a portfolio of mines, including Mogalakwena Mine, Amandelbult Mine, Mototolo Platinum Mine, Kroondal Platinum Mine, Modikwa Platinum Mine, and Unki Mine based in Shurugwi.

The two-year stretch without fatalities represents Amplats’ lengthiest period without such incidents to date, reinforcing the company’s commitment to rigorous safety standards. The comprehensive safety record is complemented by a noteworthy reduction in the Total Recordable Case Frequency Rate (TRCFR) to an unprecedented low of 1.61 per one million hours worked. This signifies a remarkable year-on-year improvement of 31%, marking an 85% enhancement since 2012.
